Focusing on Christ at center of Kelly’s message

“Keeping Your Focus on Christ” was Tommy Kelly’s chapel message at Charleston Southern University Oct. 28.

He used Matthew 14:22-33 to demonstrate how to keep your focus on Christ:

  • Alone time with God. “You expect God to do great things with you, but you aren’t spending time with Him,” said Kelly. Jesus demonstrated how to get alone and spend time with God.
  • Trust Him and keep going. “Peter walked on the water and trusted Christ,” said Kelly. “His focus was right for just a few moments. Peter started to sink because he listened to the winds of the world.”

Kelly told students to keep their focus on Jesus and quit listening to the winds of the world, and then God will do great things.

Kelly is pastor of Varnville Baptist Church in Varnville and is currently president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
