Joe Reed, a retired minister and member of Northside Baptist Church in Lexington, was recognized by Columbia International University Nov. 6 at the school’s alumni weekend banquet.

Reed graduated from CIU in 1945 when it was known as Columbia Bible College. He was the only member of the 70th-anniversary class present at the reunion.

“Rev. Joe,” as he is known, recently received a plaque from Lexington County sheriff Larry Koon in recognition of Reed’s 30 years of volunteer chaplaincy at the Lexington County jail.

Reed plans to attend the 75th reunion of his graduating class at North Greenville University in 2016.
