Editor’s Word: Mary — A Picture of Commitment

As the Christmas season closes in on us, we are faced with one of the most unusual times in our country. The History Channel stated that Christmas is a “Christian holiday honoring the birth of Jesus, which evolved over two millennia into a worldwide religious and secular celebration, incorporating many pre-Christian pagan traditions into the festivities. Today, Christmas is a time for family and friends to get together and exchange gifts.”

That may be the way it is — but is that the way it should be? There is no doubt the Christmas season is a mixture of pagan, commercial and Christian influences. However, can Christians make an impact for Christ and His Gospel during this season? We can, if we have what Mary had: commitment to God.
