Obituary: Dallas Lester Redding Jr.

Dallas “Dal” L. Redding Jr., 93, died Nov. 10, 2015.

He attended Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute and earned a degree in pastoral ministries from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Extension Department.

He pastored five churches in South Carolina: Trinity Baptist in Gaston, Mt. Carmel Baptist in Orangeburg, Highland Baptist in Orangeburg, McCall First Baptist, and Mt. Olive Baptist in Hopkins. In retirement, he served churches as interim pastor. He also served on a number of committees in the Orangeburg-Calhoun Baptist Association and served two terms as moderator.

Redding entered the ministry in 1969 upon his retirement from the U.S. Army after 26 years of service, which included World War II, Korea and Vietnam. In Vietnam, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, two Bronze Star medals, the Air Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Dot. Survivors include a son, a grandson and two great-grandchildren.
