Obituary: Wilbur Buford Creech

Wilbur Buford Creech, 83, of Barnwell County, died Oct. 9, 2015.

He was a graduate of North Greenville Junior College, Florida Baptist Theological College, and William Carey Baptist College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was ordained into the ministry in 1957.

He served as pastor of churches in Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina — including George’s Creek in Bamberg County, Adam’s Run, Midway in Hemingway, Carter’s Chapel in Georgetown, Pee Dee in Pleasant Hill, Two Mile Swamp in Cope, Rehoboth in Piedmont, Crestview in Orangeburg, and Olar First Baptist. He served as interim and supply pastor for many other South Carolina churches after his retirement.

He was associate chaplain for the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg for 25 years, and was chaplain for hospitals in Charleston, Florence, Greenville, and Augusta, Ga., for many years. He also served as chaplain for the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Department.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Myrtle Hair Creech, four children, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
