Obituary: George Alexander Jones

George Alexander Jones, 96, died Feb. 12, 2016, at his home in Hendersonville, N.C.

He served as pastor of The Baptist Church of Beaufort, S.C., from 1955 to 1970, during which time he led the church to launch a ministry for seasonal migrant workers in Beaufort County. After serving in South Carolina, he was a director of missions in Kentucky and retired to Western North Carolina, where he remained active as an interim pastor and in teaching at Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute.

He was a graduate of Lees McCrae College, Lenoir Rhyne College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as a chaplain in the U.S. Army.

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 67 years, Evelyn Masden Jones. He was the father of four children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
