National preaching conference set for May 17-19 in D.C.

Some of the nation’s most well-known preachers will gather in suburban Washington, D.C., May 17-19 for the 25th annual session of the National Conference on Preaching, sponsored by the College of Christian Studies at Anderson University and Preaching magazine.

The theme of the 2016 conference is “Preaching and the Public Square.” Featured speakers at the May conference will include:

  • Ed Stetzer, executive director of LifeWay Research, preaching pastor of Grace Church in Hendersonville, Tenn., and a widely known speaker and author.
  • Ralph Douglas West, founder and senior pastor of The Church Without Walls in Houston, Texas, a congregation of more than 24,000 that meets in three locations.
  • Bryan Chapell, senior pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Ill., former president of Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, and author of one of the most widely used preaching texts in American seminaries.
  • Barry Black, chaplain of the U.S. Senate and former rear admiral and chief of chaplains of the U.S. Navy.
  • Maurice Watson, senior pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, which meets in Washington, D.C., and Largo, Md.
  • Charlie Dates, senior pastor of Progressive Baptist Church in Chicago, Ill.
  • Eung Yul Ryoo, senior pastor of Korean Central Presbyterian Church in Centreville, Va., which is hosting the conference.
  • David Stokes, senior pastor of Expectations Church in Fairfax, Va., and a Wall Street Journal bestselling author.
  • Joseph Evans, senior pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.
  • Dennis Phelps, professor of preaching at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and president of the Evangelical Homiletics Society.

In addition to the featured speakers, a number of other pastors and teachers will lead a variety of more than 20 practical workshops on preaching-related topics.

“This event will bring together hundreds of pastors and church leaders from across America to focus on the challenge of preaching in an era when many in today’s culture seek to silence the church’s moral voice,” said Michael Duduit, conference director and executive editor of Preaching magazine. Duduit also serves as founding dean of the College of Christian Studies and Clamp Divinity School at Anderson University in Anderson, S.C.

The conference will feature a series of theme-related addresses, plus a number of sermons and workshops. This is the first installment of the annual conference to be hosted by a primarily non-English-speaking church, and one entire track of workshops will be offered in the Korean language. Previous conferences have been held in a variety of cities, including Atlanta, Orlando, Dallas, Charlotte, Houston, Nashville, and Newport Beach, Calif.
