Longtime Beaufort County pastor Bob Cuttino dies

Robert Edward “Bob” Cuttino, 83, of Beaufort, died June 23, 2016.

A native of Sumter, he earned degrees from Wofford College and Yale University and received an honorary doctorate from Furman University. He served for 65 years in several South Carolina pastorates in Williston, Fairfax, Lake City, Lancaster, Hilton Head and Beaufort. He was a former president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and held positions on various boards such as the Sunday School Board, the Peace Committee, and the board of trustees of Charleston Southern University. He taught religion for over two decades in the University of South Carolina system and organized educational tours abroad, which took him to 33 countries. He wrote a weekly religious column for the Bluffton Today. He authored a history of South Carolina Baptists to celebrate the state convention’s 175th anniversary and was president of the South Carolina Baptist Historical Society. He also co-founded Operation Good Neighbor, which brought racially diverse churches together to meet community needs.

Survivors include two children and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Molly Jane Leatherwood Cuttino.
