Joye Mears Terry, 53, the wife of Wayne Terry, associate executive director of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, died June 1, 2016, at her home in Lexington after a 16-year battle with breast cancer.
Born July 27, 1962 in Greenwood, S.C., she graduated from Wardlaw Academy in 1980, Anderson University in 1982 and Winthrop University in 1984. While at Winthrop, she became very active in the Baptist Student Union (now Baptist Collegiate Ministries), serving as missions fund-raising coordinator. That experience provided her lifelong friendships and helped her develop a love for missions.
After graduating with a degree in family and consumer science, she married Wayne Terry, working side by side with him and supporting him in ministry in Indiana, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
She worked for the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Services for 13 years, serving in Florence, Darlington and Horry counties. She also worked with 4-H in Rutherford County, Tenn.
She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Lexington.
Survivors include her husband and two sons.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 5, at 3 p.m. at Lake Murray Baptist Church in Lexington.
