Joseph L. Emery, 91, of Tryon, N.C., died May 11, 2016.

Born in Waco, Texas, he was a graduate of Baylor University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Pioneer Theological Seminary, and Columbia University (New York). After serving churches in Texas and West Virginia, he became pastor of Rutledge Avenue Baptist Church, Charleston, where he retired in 1984.
