Obituary: Jack Ellenburg

Jack S.W. Ellenburg, 80, of Anderson, died Dec. 14, 2016.

Born in Greenville, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force and earned a B.A. degree from Furman University, an M.Div. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and an M.S.S.W. from the University of Louisville.

He spent the majority of his ministry as a pastor, serving several South Carolina Baptist churches: Mountain View, Walhalla; Double Springs, Anderson; North Side, Greenwood; First Baptist, Bamberg; and Riverland Hills, Columbia.

He was a former development officer and director of counseling services at Anderson University; associate pastor for administration and member care at Concord Baptist Church, Anderson; adjunct professor of sociology and psychology for Lander University and Piedmont Technical College, Greenwood; and interim pastor for many congregations throughout South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

Ellenburg served as vice president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, chairman of the board of trustees at Anderson University, and as a social worker with Connie Maxwell Children’s Home.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Fran Ellenburg, two daughters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
