Longtime pastor Dick Lincoln retires after 38 years at Shandon

Dick Lincoln, pastor of Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia since 1978, retired in March. During his 38-year tenure, Shandon’s membership grew from 750 to around 7,000, and attendance grew to around 2,200.

In 1996, the church moved from the Shandon neighborhood to its current location on Forest Drive. Lincoln served as president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention in 1999 and was a member of The Baptist Courier’s board of trustees from 2001-2006. He also has been a trustee of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in California.

A native of New York, he is a graduate of the University of South Florida and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Lincoln and his wife, Elizabeth, will move to Greenville, where they are renovating a home.
