Obituary: Gene Henson

Gene Henson, 85, of Easley, died Jan. 18, 2018.

A native of Williamston, he graduated from North Greenville Junior College, Furman University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He and his wife of 64 years, Exie Wilde Henson, were missionaries with the International Mission Board and served in four countries. They worked in the Amazon Basin, reaching many who had never heard the name of Jesus.

He later served as pastor of the International Interdenominational Church of Rio de Janeiro and with World Literature Crusade, a missionary organization that provided the gospel to people in their own languages.

The Hensons’ last missionary posting was in Augsburg, Germany, where they served a church on a U.S. military base.

Survivors include his wife, three children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
