Lewis Edward McCormick Jr., 95, of Pinopolis, died Dec. 11, 2017.

Born Dec. 26, 1921, in Blackville, he graduated from Furman University in 1942 and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1945. He later received a doctor of divinity degree from Charleston Southern University.

He pastored the following churches in South Carolina: Springfield Baptist, Healing Springs Baptist, Hampton First Baptist, Wellford Baptist, Edgefield First Baptist and Mullins First Baptist, where he was named pastor emeritus. In retirement, he served 21 churches as interim pastor and continued preaching into his 90s.

He was a trustee of Anderson College and the Baptist College of Charleston, president of the South Carolina Baptist Historical Society, and served on numerous boards and committees of denominational entities.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Helen Daniell Ray McCormick, in 2016.

Survivors include two daughters, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
