Evangelistic renewal advocated by SBC task force

Messengers to the 2018 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Dallas adopted a report from the Evangelism Task Force appointed by SBC president Steve Gaines in 2017.

The report spoke to eight areas of ministry and encouraged leaders of those ministries to enlist workers, train Christians, and focus on evangelistic ministry.

Chairman Adam Greenway, dean of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary’s Billy Graham School of Missions, Evangelism and Ministry, said, “It will take all of us working together in unity for the task of the Great Commission to be accomplished. Every one of us has a part to play.”

Before adoption of the report, which can be read in full at BaptistCourier.com, the messengers also received the Evangelism Articles of Affirmation and Denial authored by the same task force.

Greenway stated, “We wanted to take the opportunity to provide a clear set of principles in terms of things we believe Southern Baptists can heartily affirm and say with clarity things we do not believe evangelism entails.” The 12 points of the articles can also be read at BaptistCourier.com.

While each Southern Baptist church is autonomous, the task force called on all Southern Baptists to “renew with great urgency the priority of evangelizing the next generations, and to adapt the recommended methodology to individual environments without changing our theology.”
