Obituary: Earl Pitts

Earl Haskel Pitts, 93, of Simpsonville, died Aug. 22, 2018.

He served in the Navy during World War II and was a graduate of Furman University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He began Laurel Baptist Mission in Greenville in 1956, which grew into Maple Heights Baptist Church, where he served as pastor until 1962. He also was chaplain of John De La Howe School in McCormick from 1967-70 and superintendent of the Boys Home of the South in Belton from 1970-80. He was a member of Washington Baptist Church in Pelzer. 

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Gloria Burton Pitts, three daughters, four grandchildren, one step-granddaughter and two step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons.
