Samuel G. “Sam” Catoe, 73, of Kershaw, died Aug. 19, 2020.

Born in Camden, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was also a missionary with the International Mission Board in Benin, Africa, and Paris, France. He also served in various positions at churches in Kansas, Maryland, and South Carolina, including First Baptist Church, Travelers Rest, Victor Baptist Church, Greer, Park Street Baptist Church (now known as Village Church at Park Street), Columbia, and Center Grove Baptist Church, Kershaw. He was a graduate of Furman University and received his doctorate from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Marie Huckaby Catoe.
