Editor’s Word: A Story of America

Not so long ago, a nation was formed on the soil of an expansive continent. About 90 percent of its founding fathers were Christian. Their faith was reflected in the laws they enacted, the constitution they wrote, and the Declaration of Independence they produced. Christian colleges dotted the landscape. Great leaders emerged from this God-blessed country.

One of the early justices of their Supreme Court even called it a Christian nation. The government printed Bibles, and worship services were held at the capitol with a military band providing the music.

The nation grew to become the envy of the world. Its strength was witnessed by foreigners as a direct correlation to their faith in God. This nation made mistakes: It discriminated against blacks and even enslaved them. It would not allow women or blacks to vote. This grave injustice was corrected as the nation matured.

Then, something began to happen. The country began to turn away from God, with the result being all kinds of evil gaining power and prominence in the land. Powerful news organizations and corporations sought to please proponents of evil instead of citizens of good will. Soon, the nation was on a downward slide away from God and toward destruction.

Men began to marry men and women began to marry women, to the apparent delight of those in the government. In fact, the government even passed a law making same-sex marriages legal. The country had forgotten or didn’t believe the Bible’s account of God’s destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah due to their chief sin (among other sins) of sexual perversion.

The liberals in positions of power and influence continued to peddle their poison. Satan grew stronger across the land. Where good had abounded, sin abounded even more. It was a dark time in the nation’s history.

Churches grew silent, while others even endorsed the sinful agenda of the radicals. The mention of God was disallowed in public schools. Colleges and universities became training grounds for radicals, extremists, and liberals (who preferred the name “progressives”).

The great metropolitan areas of the nation became strongholds of liberalism, while some hope of sanity remained in the rural areas of the land. However, this was not enough to stem the tide of insanity that washed over the land like a tidal wave.

A president and a senator both echoed the sentiments of their deluded supporters, “A person should be able to love who they want,” with an emphasis on same-sex relationships. The citizens, who had not completely lost all moral reasoning, realized that even the word “love” had been desecrated and perverted. Something called “truth” had become a word that represented opinion rather than objective, verifiable reality. People began to talk about “their truth” as opposed to someone else’s truth. Truth soon became unknown in this once great land.

That was only the tip of the iceberg, but it became the turning point in the nation’s demise.

Many other things compounded the downfall of this once God-blessed land of opportunity, great natural resources, and beautiful landscapes. The fall of this country was quicker than most prognosticators predicted.

What caused the fall of this country that was once called the greatest experiment of liberty in history? A Frenchman visiting the nation during its early years observed the people, the government, schools, businesses, and the military. He concluded that if this country remained good, it would continue to be great. But the time came when the country was no longer good. After that, its decline was rapid.

While some people in the land of the free continued to worship God, seek His will, and tell His story of good news, far too many had drunk the poison of godless and atheistic thought. Remnants of the good and godly citizens remained for some time, but eventually they were completely silenced or assigned to the work camps of worthlessness. Some fought to the end, while others finally surrendered to the cultural gestapo of the land.

The citizens used to sing, “God Bless (their country).” These Christians never despaired because they had a dual citizenship: heaven and their country. Today, they are doing great in a real place called heaven. Their country? Well, it’s still around, but it is nothing like the greatest nation on earth many people called it.

While we have breath, let us work and pray to make our country a place of goodness, godliness, and freedom. Let us seek to restore moral sanity to the insanity that has captured our leaders, our corporations, and our schools. Vow to fight the good fight of faith while we possibly still have some time.
