Lawrence “Larry” Southerland, of Anderson, died Jan. 29, 2023.

A native of Easley, he was a graduate of Erskine College, Furman University, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Japanese Language School, Tokyo, Japan. He was pastor of churches in Indiana and South Carolina for nine years and served as a missionary in Japan for 10 years. He taught at Seinan Gakuin University in Japan and returned to the United States in 1970, where he taught at Anderson College for 20 years. He was an active member of Boulevard Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marcella B. Southerland, four children, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
