Billy Lee Mew, 77, of Seneca, died Nov. 17, 2023.
A native of Andrews, he grew up in the town of Blackville and was a member of Blackville First Baptist Church, where he was later ordained to the ministry. He graduated from Anderson College (now Anderson University), Baptist College at Charleston (now Charleston Southern University), and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
He served as pastor of Pine Level Baptist Church, Grays; Lower Three Runs Baptist Church, Martin; Seven Pines Baptist Church, Snelling; and Hunters Chapel Baptist Church, Bamberg. He was director of missions for the Barnwell-Bamberg Baptist Association from 2000-2009.
He was a member of the Blackville Historical Society and authored 12 books, 10 of which were local church histories.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Olive Baxley Mew, a daughter and three grandchildren.
