Men, women, youth and children from 14 churches in Waccamaw Association gathered Nov. 5 to pray with and for women and children around the world as part of Baptist Women’s World Day of Prayer.
The event was sponsored by Woman’s Missionary Union of Waccamaw Association and held at Victory Baptist Church.
The Day of Prayer represents an ongoing event that first began after World War II and was promoted as “a means to reunite Baptists separated by the pain and devastation of war and to strengthen the spiritual bonds in years to come.”
As in the late 1940s, this year’s Day of Prayer was an opportunity for individuals to come together to pray specifically for the seven continents, to promote understanding and sympathy, and for drawing together Baptist women around the world.
The 2012 program, led by the Asian Baptist Women’s Union, had as its theme “In Step with the Spirit Through the Fruit of the Spirit: JOY.”
Participants contributed to an offering to support the worldwide ministries of the Baptist World Alliance.
