The South Carolina Baptist Convention has named Andy Weems the new Baptist Collegiate Ministry director for the University of South Carolina and Columbia-area colleges.

Weems has more than 25 years experience as director of student ministries with the North American Mission Board and Southern Baptist associations in Ohio, most recently by serving six college campuses in the Dayton, Ohio, area. For the last two years, he was also involved in planting and pastoring a church on the campus of Wright State University in Dayton.

“I look forward to an exciting future through collegiate ministry in Columbia and to the privilege of partnering with all of the talented staff, volunteers and students,” Weems said.

In addition to campus discipleship and evangelism, missions will be an area of focus for the new director. Since 1998, Weems has led 30 mission trips to 15 states, 14 countries and one U.S. territory and supervised approximately seven US/C-2 missionaries, 10 semester missionaries and 40 summer missionaries.

“We are excited that someone with Andy’s experience and love for collegiate ministry will be coming to – the Columbia area,” said Ken Owens, state convention BCM director.

Weems holds an undergraduate degree from Berry College in Floyd, Ga., a master of divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a doctor of ministry degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Lisa, have five children. – SCBC
