Five women from Sweetwater Baptist Church in North Augusta traveled to Romania in November to feed poor people in the midst of a potato famine. Planning for the trip began in early spring of 2012 when devastating floods destroyed the potato crops in Romania. Church member Linda Gillespie shared with her church a burden for the Romanian people, and more than $18,000 was given to purchase potatoes, rice and other staples. Accompanying Gillespie on the trip were Beverly Reece, Kathy Ferguson, Gail Butler, and Kara Carter, who worked with Mircea Pestean of Maranatha Missions in Zalau, Romania, to feed people in Salaj County. During the trip, 14,000 pounds of potatoes, 4,000 pounds of rice, 28,000 pounds of staple goods, 64 pairs of shoes, and 120 pairs of socks were distributed. The gospel was shared with individuals and in churches, and many prayed to receive Christ.

North Greenville University student Katie Mitchell sang in chapel and spoke during the school’s recent student-led spiritual renewal week. Cody Younger, a junior Christian studies major, said the technology culture, epitomized by the iconic iPhone, played a part in choosing the name for the week’s theme: “iLife.” “We just kept coming back to the idea of the Christ-centered life,” he said.
