Don Dowless will join the North Greenville University administration in June as executive director for academics. He comes to NGU from Charleston Southern University, where he has served as associate provost and dean for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences since 2000.
Don Dowless“I am excited about working with Dr. Epting and the faculty and staff of North Greenville University, who have demonstrated a wonderful commitment to promoting Christian higher education by encouraging students and others to be ambassadors for Christ throughout the world through their chosen professions,” stated Dowless. “It is a privilege to be able to serve alongside such dedicated people.”
Dowless is a 1979 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his M.Div. from Southeastern Baptist Seminary in 1983 and his Ph.D. from Baylor University in 1989.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Dowless is coming to join the North Greenville family,” said university president Jimmy Epting. “He will do a wonderful job because of his extensive academic and administrative experience.”
That experience includes chairmanship of the department of religion and associate professor of religion at Charleston Southern University; a graduate assistantship for the department of religion at Baylor University; visiting lecturer for the department of philosophy and religion at North Carolina State University; adjunct professor for Campbell University, Southeastern Baptist Seminary and Charleston Southern University.
Dowless was ordained to the ministry in 1982 by Good Hope Baptist Church, Youngsville, N.C., and has served in pastorates in North Carolina and Texas and as interim pastor of Charleston Heights Baptist Church, Deer Park Baptist Church and Holmes Avenue Baptist Church in Charleston.
