Joe Proctor, former pastor, was honored March 11 by the members of Centenary Baptist Church, Marion Baptist Association. Proctor, who began duties at Hebron Baptist Church in January, was presented a silver tray engraved with the date of his service to the Centenary congregation, 1998-2005. With Proctor, left, is Todd Barron, deacon chairman at the end of Proctor’s tenure.

 

Summerton Baptist Church, Santee Association, spearheaded its fourth annual men’s wild game supper March 16 at the farm of member Buck Bell, near Goat Island. Keynote speaker was New York Yankee legend Bobby Richardson from Sumter. Musical guest was the “Last Generation” quartet from Sumter. About 1,600 men attended. Fifteen men made professions of faith, and many others rededicated their lives to Christ. Member Dennis Craven, owner of Stokes-Craven Automotive, underwrites the event, and numerous other volunteers from the association’s churches, as well as churches from other denominations, make this event possible.

 

Chandler Hiers and Alexus James were selected as Valentine’s Day King and Queen Feb. 5 at Memorial Baptist Church, Olar, as part of a fundraiser for Connie Maxwell Children’s Home. Family, friends and church members placed donations in shoe boxes decorated by the church’s children, all of whom received teddy bears with the “God’s Team” imprint.

 

Truth Tabernacle Baptist Church, Starr, hosted an “Awana Sports Night” Feb. 8. More than 400 youth attended. With keynote speaker Tommy Bowden, right, Clemson head football coach, is pastor Steve Wagers.

 

March 5 was declared as “L.L. (Bill) Bright Day” at Park Hill Baptist Church, Gaffney. Bright was named deacon emeritus for his many years of service to the church. With Bright, center, are his wife Elizabeth and pastor Larry Sanders.

 

Roberta Cheek was recognized Dec. 11 at Varennes Heights Baptist Church, Anderson, for 54 years of perfect attendance in Sunday school. Jay Copelan, Sunday school director, presented the 54-year pin to Cheek.

 

The congregation of Double Pond Baptist Church, Blackville, has broken ground for a 6000-square-foot fellowship hall. Participants included building committee members Don Moore, Peggy Burnette, Shirley Rowell, Frank Martin and Denny Hartzog. Others shown on the front row are Kit Moore, youngest member; Freeman Nettles; William Miller, contractor; Mark Heir; and Billy Mew, director of missions for Barnwell-Bamberg Association.

 

Chris Butler, front row, center, was ordained to the ministry Feb. 12 by First Baptist Church, Liberty, where he is minister of students and outreach. A graduate of Anderson University, he previously served as summer intern and student ministry associate at Lexington Baptist Church. Participating in the service: (back row) Brad Price, minister of music and youth, Corinth Church, Seneca; Ray Conway, minister of music, College Street Church, Walhalla; and Butler’s father-in-law, John Swindler, minister of students, Lexington Church, Lexington; (front row) Craig Canton, pastor of First Church, Westminster; Butler; and Travis Bowers, pastor of Liberty First and former youth pastor at Butler’s home church, Welcome Baptist in Greenville.

 

Fifteen Girls in Action enjoyed camp games, songs, crafts, a scavenger hunt and making S’mores over a campfire in February at Ocean View Baptist Church, Myrtle Beach. GA director Suzanne Hogan and four other leaders planned the overnight event, which featured Camp LaVida director Cindy Skelton and two camp staffers.
