For several years, the Women on Mission of Cassatt Baptist Church, Kershaw Baptist Association, have crocheted caps for the Seaman’s Ministry in Charleston. This year, Girls in Action from the church put their names and addresses in the hats, and one of the GAs, Karlie Watkins, recently received a “thank you” note and patriotic pin from one of the sailors.

Jan Atkin, WMU director at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, Belton, was appointed to the Mission Service Corps of the North American Mission Board. Atkin, multi-housing ministry coordinator for Saluda Baptist Association, was recognized Feb. 19 by pastor Ron Culbertson and the Mt. Bethel congregation for her service to missions and to the community.

Kathleen Williams of First Baptist Church, Springfield, was recently honored for 84 years of involvement in Woman’s Missionary Union. Starting with Sunbeams, Williams is still active in “The Sunshine Group” at First Baptist. With her is her pastor Stephen Gantt and WMU director Julia Furtick.

First Baptist Church, Simpsonville, sponsored its first community Easter egg hunt April 8. Maria Hurst, center (in pink), translated flyers into Spanish to help promote the event. More than 10,000 eggs were hidden. Children ages 2 to 7 participated in the morning hunt, and a nighttime, flashlight hunt was held for ages 8 through 10.

On March 5, South Main Street Baptist Church, Greenwood, celebrated the opening of its new preschool wing and fellowship hall. The fellowship hall will be known as The Connecting Place. Also shown is member Art Murray signing a document that will be framed and hung in the new building.

First Baptist Church, Lowrys, Chester Baptist Association, held Children’s Day on March 26. Thirty-three children presented the program during the morning worship hours. Scripture, Bible stories and singing were heard, followed by a slide presentation of missions events and projects the group participated in. The special day was to honor the children and dedicate the new playground. Donors were recognized for their contribution to help fund and build the playground equipment. A ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony was held on the site following the worship hour. Everyone returned to the fellowship hall for a covered dish meal. Nancy Stewart, children’s department Sunday school teacher and missions department leader, thanked everyone for their support while sharing, “The children are our future leaders, and it is very important for the church to provide a program that will develop them physically, emotionally and spiritually.”
