Well, here we are at the outset of a busy summer. These months are, without a doubt, the busiest in terms of ministry activity and opportunities to serve Jesus Christ.
Don WiltonWhen one considers all the many mission trips both at home and abroad and takes one look at our young people, who seem to be everywhere at the same time, we certainly are involved.
When one thinks of Vacation Bible School, one cannot but help thank the Lord for this unprecedented opportunity to introduce our children to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. What a privilege.
When you think about it, we are a convention of South Carolina Baptists on mission for the Lord Jesus Christ, and lives are being changed for all time and eternity as a result. Never, for one minute, think that what you do is any less worthwhile than what others do. All of us can participate in prayer, in financial giving, with encouragement, and in so many other practical ways.
Some of the greatest efforts in this regard come from some of our dearest senior adults, many of whom are unable to leave their homes. We cannot thank them enough for their faithfulness.
Added to all of this, there is the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Greensboro, N.C. Please join together with 18 million other Southern Baptists in praying for every facet of this time together. It is during this gathering that we pray together, celebrate together, deliberate together, and make important decisions that must be in line with the perfect will of God.
As the largest Protestant denomination in the world, we are being carefully watched and closely scrutinized. Our witness concerning our Lord and Savior is critical, and we have so much work to do. Please pray for our convention president, Dr. Bobby Welch, and for me, too. I am deeply honored to be the convention preacher this year and feel particularly honored to have this opportunity while serving as president of our South Carolina Baptists.
As you serve the Lord Jesus this summer, keep your focus and be encouraged in your heart. The greatest thing we can do is “give it all away.”
