North Conway Baptist Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary June 4.

Harvey Johnson, the church’s first full-time pastor, will lead the worship service.
On Saturday, June 3, a drop-in social will be held in honor of Johnson from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the church fellowship hall.
North Conway Baptist Church was founded June 3, 1956, as part of a mission outreach program of the Southern Baptist Convention, which had set a goal of establishing 30,000 new churches.
The missions committee of First Baptist Church, Conway, saw that the growing residential area north of Conway could sustain a new church, and North Conway Baptist Church became the “first of 30,000” to be organized.
The mission’s first service was held at the 12th Avenue Elementary School with 11 members present on June 3, 1956. The first wing of the current church was completed in November 1956. The mission was organized into a church on Dec. 2, 1956, with 95 charter members. Johnson was called as its first full-time pastor in February 1957. The church sanctuary was dedicated on July 7, 1963.
North Conway Baptist Church is located at 1608 Sessions St. in Conway.
