The Baptist Courier has learned that a Florida pastor will place the name of Frank Page of South Carolina into nomination for president of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Forrest PollockForrest Pollock, pastor of Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, Fla., will nominate Page at the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in Greensboro, N.C., June 13-14.
Page, pastor of First Baptist Church of Taylors, near Greenville, S.C., will oppose Ronnie Floyd, pastor of First Baptist Church in Springdale, Ark., for the convention’s highest elected office.
Page has said that the election is about “methodology … how we do missions and how we do convention work.” He has been endorsed by some SBC leaders, including Carlisle Driggers of South Carolina, as a champion of the Cooperative Program. His church consistently leads CP giving among churches in South Carolina.
Floyd will be nominated by Johnny Hunt, pastor of First Baptist Church, Woodstock, Ga. Floyd has been pastor of the Arkansas congregation for almost 20 years.
