Don Wilton, SCBC president, declares support for Frank Page

The president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention today declared his “wholehearted” support for Frank Page’s candidacy for president of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Don Wilton, pastor of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, who was elected president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention in November 2005, issued the following statement to The Baptist Courier:

“I am delighted to hear that my friend and fellow pastor, Dr. Frank Page, has allowed his name to be placed in nomination for President of the Southern Baptist Convention. While both he and Dr. Ronnie Floyd are my personal friends, and while both men have served the Lord faithfully in their own zones of ministry, I do believe Dr. Page will offer our beloved denomination much needed demonstrated leadership through the effectual working of our call as Baptists to go into all the world, preaching, teaching and baptizing.

“Through the long ministry and leadership of Taylors First Baptist Church, we have all been challenged through a demonstrated leadership to apply our strong convictions related to the Word of God and the commissioning of the Lord Jesus Christ in all we do.

“This election is not about the critical battles that have been justifiably fought and won related to the inerrant and infallible Word of God and the unapologetic devotion with which we, as Baptists, stand upon that Word. Those hills were worth dying for. We now face the significant issues of relevancy and real life ministry application, all encompassed by the old phrase, ‘actions speak louder than words.’

“I believe Frank Page is the man for this hour. I endorse him wholeheartedly and I call upon all Southern Baptists to think and to pray very deliberately about electing a man whose leadership is leading us to be all God wants us to be.”
