April Williams, a North Greenville University rising senior psychology major from Greer, did return to school after Christmas break, but not in Tigerville. Instead, she flew to Colorado Springs, Colo., to attend the Focus on the Family Institute and spend three-and-a-half months preparing herself to impact the culture for Christ.

Williams, the daughter of Pierce and Terry Williams, attends Fairview Baptist Church, Greer. She was one of 88 college students chosen from around the world to attend the Institute this past spring. This one-semester, living-and-learning experience challenges students to discover God in a deeper way and live out their calling and purpose in their lives. It is a hands-on, action-packed, life-altering experience that gives its students the tools and inspiration to change their world by living the Christian worldview in their family, church and society.

Williams’ father, Pierce, learned about the Institute from a Focus on the Family broadcast during Williams’ senior year in high school.

“A friend of mine went two years ago,” said Williams. “Last summer, I worked at a camp in Colorado and met some people who had studied there.”

Her course study included Christian worldview, marriage, family life and family, church and society studies, and also included an internship where she worked in the counseling department of FOF.

She did receive 15 semester credit hours which transferred back to North Greenville.

“It’s hard to put my experience into words. The hands-on experience that I received cannot be learned from a textbook,” said Williams. “I would highly recommend that any college student who wants to be a spiritual leader should participate in this Institute, regardless of their intended profession.”

Williams plans to graduate next May and further her education in Christian counseling in seminary. She feels a call to work with adolescents, perhaps overseas.
