Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., is mourning the deaths of two staff members, both of whom were South Carolina natives.
David Boan, a senior staff member at Gardner-Webb University, died June 24 from injuries received in an automobile accident.
A native of Dillon, he graduated from Gardner-Webb with a bachelor of arts degree in religion. He earned a master of divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Seminary and a doctor of ministry degree from Drew University.
Boan had worked in Gardner-Webb fundraising since 2002 and was promoted to the senior staff as vice president for development in March.
Boan also served as pastor for several churches in North Carolina and South Carolina. His involvement in community and civic activities included Hospice, Boiling Springs Rotary Club, Habitat for Humanity and the United Way.
Bruce Rabon, assistant vice president for development in religious studies, died June 20 after a long battle with cancer.
Rabon was born in Kershaw County and had worked at Gardner-Webb since 1993. He was director of the Christian Service Organization of Gardner-Webb.
Rabon was a graduate of Gardner-Webb, Carson-Newman College and Southern Baptist Seminary. He formerly served as a trustee of Meredith University and Gardner-Webb and served on the nominations committee for the North Carolina Baptist Convention and various committees for the Greater Cleveland County Baptist Association.
Rabon pastored several North Carolina churches. He also served as volunteer fire department chaplain and was a former member of Upper Cleveland Rescue and Fallston Lions Club.
