Thomas Earl Vaughn Sr., 85, of Lexington, a pastor and biblical character actor, died June 25 after a short illness resultant of Parkinson’s disease and stroke.

Born in Greer, he graduated from Greer High School, Mars Hill College, Furman University, and Southwestern Baptist Seminary. He was a Baptist minister for more than 60 years.

He served several South Carolina Baptist churches, including Antioch Baptist Church, Enoree; Maple Baptist Church, Conway; and State Street Baptist Church, Cayce.

He retired from the South Carolina Baptist Convention as the field representative for the Annuity Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.

He was a dramatist, portraying biblical characters for audiences across both Carolinas and the Southern Baptist Convention. In retirement, he served numerous churches as interim pastor and held drama revivals until the age of 83.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Bess McManus Vaughn, three children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
