This encouraging word comes to you from my heart as I think of all of our faithful people in this beautiful state of South Carolina. The Lord has truly blessed us, has He not? I love the song we sing, “Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done!” We are a diverse people, we Baptists, but most certainly we operate on one central principle and that is the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Don WiltonThe longer I am privileged to serve as the pastor of my people here in Spartanburg, the more I come to value and appreciate the deep significance of keeping the “main thing the main thing.”
It has been my experience not only here at First Baptist Church, but also in so many other churches, that those of us who focus on the Lord Jesus Christ and who have a deep and abiding sense of purpose and commitment in regard to our Savior seem to grow in the grace, knowledge and admonition of our Lord. I want to encourage you in this regard.
It is so easy to become distracted by so many personal preferences and even personal convictions. Doing the work of the Lord means that He is preeminent in all things, because He alone is entirely sufficient in all things.
As we work together, let’s continue to pray for one another as we experience His saving grace. Let’s pray for Frank Page in his leadership role in the convention. Let’s pray, with gratitude in our hearts, for Tim Williams and his committee as they seek God’s man to lead us as a people who continue the incredible work we have been so ably led to do under Carlisle Driggers’ leadership. We truly are surrounded by wonderful people, and you are faithful.
I love you for the way in which you give of your finances to the Lord’s work through your tithes and offerings. I love you for serving Him with an open heart and for being willing to be on mission for Christ Jesus, as we seek to share the good news from our own communities into all the world. May your heart be truly encouraged today.
