An Encouraging Word – by Don Wilton

The Baptist Courier

I am delighted to write this note to you in this edition of The Baptist Courier. Judging by the very positive response, it would seem many of our people read the Courier with great interest and much appreciation.

Hard work goes into every opportunity to provide us with updates on newsworthy items and other matters of interest to all of us as Baptists. It makes me think of all the thousands of pieces of literature placed on nearly every pew of most of our churches. Much of it comes from LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville, where scores of dedicated men and women are engaged in providing resources for Sunday schools, Vacation Bible Schools, Weeks of Prayer for State Missions, and the list goes on. Southern Baptists have a massive engine at work, driving a massive effort to reach our world for the Lord Jesus Christ.

The same is true in Columbia. Stop by at our magnificent Baptist building sometime. Pay those folks a visit. You will be quite overwhelmed at the dedication and effort that goes into the work of enablement and encouragement. There is a constant stream of prayer and petition on our behalf and so much is being done to make sure our churches have all the right means to reach our communities for Christ.

The same is true in your church. Have you ever wondered about the faithful effort some precious people put into the Sunday bulletin alone? And some have to do this all on their own. How grateful we should be!

I am glad to report to you that things are going well in our state. The executive director search team is hard at work. I have every confidence that the Lord will lead them to the right man to succeed Dr. Driggers.

Of course, we would hope to present this man to you at the annual convention in November, but only if God’s man has been identified. I do not believe the Lord Jesus is in a rush, do you? Just keep on praying and serving our Savior as faithfully as ever. And thank you for all you do!
