Steve Scudder, director of missions for Savannah River Baptist Association, left, and Richard Spearman, right, pastor of St. Helena Baptist Church, St. Helena, discuss church planting with Dobbins.

Charleston Southern University hosted a church planting conference Aug. 29. Les Dobbins, partnering church resource manager for the North American Mission Board, conducted an all-day training session using a step-by-step guide to planting churches.

Dobbins explained that established churches can be involved in church planting in three ways: as a primary church, working together with other churches (cluster churches), or as a supportive church. Attendees of the conference may serve as consultants for others interested in being involved in planting churches in their area.
