With our South Carolina Baptist Convention annual meeting just around the corner, I want you to know how delighted I am at the prospect of seeing you all as we gather together to celebrate our fellowship and unity as the body of Christ in South Carolina. This wonderful year has been very special to me personally.
Don WiltonI had no idea the Lord would allow me the privilege of serving as your president during the final year of Carlisle Driggers’ extraordinary tenure of faithfulness as our called leader. His ministry and leadership have been marked by an excellence that must bring special joy to the heart of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I truly believe the unity and spirit among South Carolina Baptists are attributable to the faithfulness and committed leadership of our leader. We owe the Lord a great deal of gratitude for loaning Dr. Driggers to us for these years, and we can have every confidence our Savior will do it again. Our next leader certainly has a strong foundation on which to stand, as together we seek to know the mind of Christ in reaching our communities, and beyond, with the message of Jesus Christ.
I have also been deeply blessed by the convention staff. Our Baptist building in Columbia is filled with a most dedicated and precious people who operate with a deep sense of purpose and call upon their lives.
And I have so much love and appreciation in my heart for the hundreds of our people who give up hours of time to serve on the many committees that do the work of our calling across the board here in South Carolina.
The bottom line is you – every faithful member of the body of Christ in every Southern Baptist church in every corner of our beautiful state.
Thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you for your prayerfulness. Thank you for your mission-mindedness and your cooperative spirit of giving as we give – because our mandate is to “Give It Away”!
