I’d like to thank Bill Curtis for his clear and courageous call to tone down the rhetoric against Calvinism. Returning to “the old paths” would do us well. It’s peculiar how some sing for “the old time religion” but shout it down when it resurfaces in our churches.
Yes, we need revival. But massaging the way we do church will not bring it. Our Lord tells us “the wind blows where it wishes,” so it is the Holy Spirit, not the church calendar, that dictates when and if the declining church in America will be revived. I pray for revival.
But I have no confidence that the man-centered focus of the past 50+ years from our pulpits will revive anything but a deeper narcissism in our congregations. So let the Calvinist speak. He has an eye for God’s glory in an exalted Christ. And without Christ, we are nothing.
