Miller named pastor emeritus

Fred Miller, a former pastor and longtime member, has been named pastor emeritus by St. Andrews Baptist Church, Columbia.

Miller, pastor at St. Andrews for 16 years (1977-1993) and a member for a total of 30 years, was honored by the Columbia congregation at a special service on Jan. 14. Miller’s wife Evelyn and their three grown sons and families were present for the service.

A native of Union, Miller is a graduate of Furman University and Southeastern Baptist Seminary. He was awarded honorary doctor of divinity degrees by Furman and Charleston Southern universities. He has served on several trustee boards for South Carolina Baptist institutions, and was president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention General Board for two terms and president of the South Carolina Baptist Pastor’s Conference in 1986.

Miller’s entire ministry has been in South Carolina. He served as pastor of four churches, and since retirement has been interim pastor 11 times. He also served as interim director of missions for Columbia Metro Association.
