John Blackmon, second from right, stands with his grandsons, Wayne Willis and Tommy Willis (far left and far right, respectively) and his daughter Louise Willis during one of two birthday events honoring his 100th birthday. Blackmon, who was born Feb. 5, 1907, is a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, Lancaster. He retired from Springs Industries in 1967 and began repairing antique clocks in his home during the mid 1980s. He has been a resident of Morningside Assisted Living Center since 2004 and has five clocks in his room. A Feb. 3 party at Morningside included a cake decorated with a $100 bill with Blackmon’s picture in the center. On Feb. 4, Blackmon was honored at Glenwood Heights, where he received a birthday cake decorated with an antique clock. A week before his birthday, Blackmon received a special birthday card featuring the presidential seal and signed by President George W. Bush and his wife Laura.
