Harry Lee Thomas, 87, of Greenville, a retired pastor and college professor, died March 20, 2007, after a period of declining health.
Harry Lee ThomasBorn in Spartanburg County, Thomas held pastorates in churches in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Kentucky. His South Carolina churches included First Baptist Church, Liberty, and Greenville’s Downtown Baptist Church, with interim pastorates at Pendleton Street Baptist Church, Greenville, and Reedy Fork Baptist Church, Moonville.
For a number of years, he was a professor of psychology at North Greenville College. Thomas also served with the Home Mission Board in a pastorate in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Thomas obtained his undergraduate degree at Wake Forest University after finishing high school in Spindale, N.C. He earned his master of divinity degree from Southern Seminary and his master of arts in education from Furman University.
He was one of the first civilians to serve in the Pentagon, and later served in the Army. He was a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Brown Thomas, two children, two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
