A called state convention to vote on the candidate for executive secretary-treasurer of the South Carolina Baptist Convention is scheduled for April 26 at Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Irmo.
The call for the convention, which will have only one item on its agenda, came from president Mike Moody, pastor of First Baptist Church, Honea Path, on March 27 after Jim Austin, an associate executive director in Missouri, was unanimously endorsed at a special meeting in Columbia of the convention’s Executive Board.
If elected, Austin will succeed Carlisle Driggers, who retired at the end of February after 15 years at the helm of the SBC’s oldest state convention.
The meeting at Riverland Hills, site of the February evangelism conference, is set for 1 p.m. Registration of messengers will start at 11 a.m.
Moody, who will preside at the convention, has named Rudy Gray, pastor of Utica Baptist Church in Seneca, and Wayne Dickard, pastor of Northbrook Baptist Church in Boiling Springs, as parliamentarians.
