The Anderson University athletic department made Conference Carolinas history Friday by winning its fourth straight Messick Sportsmanship Award.
No member of Conference Carolinas has ever won the Messick Award four years in a row.
The Messick Award was presented at the league’s annual spring meeting Friday afternoon.
“Winning the Messick caps a fantastic athletic year for Anderson University,” said AU assistant athletic director Cobb Oxford. “Holding both conference awards – the Messick Award and the Hawn Cup – at the same time has never happened before. I congratulate our athletic staff and our student-athletes for a job well done. At Anderson, we take pride in doing everything in a first-class manner.”
Anderson is the first conference member to win the Messick and the Jody Hawn Cup, the league’s all-sports trophy, in the same year.
Anderson was awarded the Hawn Cup in April after winning three league titles and having seven teams finish third place or higher in the league standings.
