Wisdom in Living Life Ministry Inc. broke ground Sept. 5 for its Beyond Recovery project, a $5.8 million residential substance abuse training center designed to help men, women and children in the Upstate overcome addiction to alcohol and other drugs.

Ron and Missy Edwards, left, members of First Baptist Church, Taylors, and NGU president Jimmy Epting, congratulate Winn Freeman at the groundbreaking for the “Beyond Recovery” project.

The groundbreaking took place on a 50-acre tract of land north of Travelers Rest, which was donated by Jim Anthony, founder and president of The Cliffs Communities Inc. Phase I of the project is a 40-bed residential facility for men.

“Beyond Recovery will differ from other substance abuse treatment centers in the area by focusing first on changing the heart and then teaching addicts how to have purpose in life and live free from addiction,” said Winn Freeman, founder and president of Wisdom in Living Life Ministry. Freeman, an ordained Southern Baptist minister and a member of Renfrew Baptist Church, Travelers Rest, previously served as director of the Greenville Rescue Mission for six years.

Government and community leaders participating included Jimmy Epting, president, North Greenville University; Bob Jones III, chancellor, Bob Jones University; Richard Waters, president, Holmes Bible College; Diane Cagle, chief magistrate of Greenville County; Joe Dill, Greenville County Council; Senators Mike Fair and Lewis Vaughn; Representatives Harry Cato and Rex Rice; and Rick Fisher, foundation director.
