Irene Nunn Cooper, of Spartanburg, wife of retired Baptist pastor Robert Sydney Cooper for 68 years, died July 1, 2007.
Irene CooperShe was born in Eatonton, Ga., and grew up in Gainesville. She attended the Baptist Bible Institute at New Orleans Seminary, the University of Georgia, and George Washington University.
Cooper served with her husband in churches in Georgia, Kentucky, Washington, D.C., and South Carolina. They served for many years at First Baptist Church, Laurens, and at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Spartanburg, where she participated in Ladies’ First Thursday, the Good News Club, Young at Heart and the Prayer Ministry, and was a member of the Pastor’s Sunday School Class. She and her husband were volunteers for Mobile Meals.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three children, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
