William A. “Bill” Hampton, 87, a retired Baptist pastor, formerly of Easley, died July 9, 2007.

Born in Anderson County, he served as pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Ware Shoals, Cedar Rock Baptist Church in Easley, Salem Baptist Church in Anderson, and Cateechee Baptist Church in Norris.

He was the grandfather of Kimberly Hampton, an Army captain and helicopter pilot who in 2004 was the first woman from South Carolina to be killed while serving in Iraq.

He was a member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church, Easley, and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Marines.

Survivors include two children and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille Cape Hampton.
