Sarah EshlemanSarah Eshleman, a student at Pensacola (Fla.) Christian College, and Cindy Gray, who attends Anderson University, are both satisfying college course requirements while serving as contributing writers for the Courier. Both plan to graduate in May 2008.
Eshleman, 21, is the daughter of Dan and Denise Eshleman of Greenville. Her major is commercial writing, with a minor in advertising. She began writing poems and stories at age 7 and has continued to write creatively. She is working on a novel.
Eshleman hasn’t settled on a specific career path, but says she enjoys writing feature stories for the Courier. “Retelling stories is definitely a passion of mine,” she said.
Some of the stories she has written for the Courier include an article about a church’s parish nursing ministry, another about a church’s outreach to children through “Berea House,” and a love story that sprang up through a mission trip to Ukraine. She is working on a feature profile of South Carolina’s first director of equestrian ministries.
Gray, who will turn 21 in August, is the daughter of Rudy and Anne Gray of Seneca. At Anderson University, she is pursuing a major in communications with a concentration in public relations and advertising. She also enjoys painting and drawing.
She said her career goals have not solidified, but she is leaning toward advertising, noting that she enjoys the process of planning ad campaigns and creating slogans.
Gray’s stories in the Courier have included a profile of Anderson University’s new associate campus minister and, in this issue, an article about “Kids Connexion,” a team of four college students traveling across South Carolina to share the gospel with children, and a recap of the Anderson University Bible Study and Preaching Retreat.
