The election pool for South Carolina Baptist Convention offices continues to grow. Three more pastors have announced they will allow their names to be placed into nomination, as of Aug. 31.

Eddie Leopard, pastor of Millbrook Baptist church, Aiken, for the past 11 years, will be nominated for SCBC president. A graduate of Southeastern Baptist Seminary, Leopard previously served as first vice president in 2002. He also has been a member of the Executive Board and Nominations Committee and was a trustee of Charleston Southern University. In 2002, he was elected president of the South Carolina Baptist Pastor’s Conference.
Wayne Dickard, pastor of Northbrook Baptist Church, Boiling Springs, will nominate Leopard.
“Eddie Leopard is a gifted preacher and pulpiteer,” Dickard said in an Aug. 27 phone interview with The Baptist Courier. “He is committed to evangelism and church growth,” Dickard said, noting that Millbrook has raised its CP giving from 3 percent to 10 percent during his tenure as pastor. “In addition, the church has given more than $200,000 annually to other missions endeavors,” he added.
Effingham pastor Quinn Hooks will be a candidate for first vice president. Hooks, pastor of Evergreen Baptist Church, is currently a trustee of The Baptist Courier. A graduate of The Citadel and Southeastern Baptist Seminary, he has been a member of both the SCBC’s Nominations Committee and Committee on Committees and has served as secretary-treasurer of the state Pastor’s Conference.
Hooks will be nominated by Jeffery Allen, minister of children and youth at South Florence Baptist Church.
Also, Howard Allen, pastor of South Florence Baptist Church since 1991, will be nominated for president of the state Pastor’s Conference. Allen has previously served as second vice president of the state convention and been a member of the SCBC Executive Board and Nominations Committee. He also has served on the Southern Baptist Convention’s Committee on Nominations.
Hooks, who will nominate Allen, said, “Not only does Howard Allen have a pastor’s heart, but he is passionate about evangelism and is a great preacher.”
In the Aug. 9 issue, The Baptist Courier reported that Richard Porter, pastor of Branchville Baptist Church, and Hans Wunch, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Ware Shoals, have announced that they will be nominated for president and second vice president, respectively.
