New school year! New clothes!

The Baptist Courier

Everyone likes to have new clothes and shoes to head back to school. For 110 students in the Chapin area, this dream became a reality.

On Aug. 25, Goody’s department store partnered with Chapin Baptist Church by opening their doors a few hours early for a private shopping spree for 110 school-aged kids.

Chapin Baptist Church hosted its second annual Clothe-A-Child program. This program is a community project to clothe selected kids in the Chapin area. Chapin Baptist works with the school district, guidance counselors and others involved in the community to reach elementary-aged children who would not otherwise be able to get new school clothes and shoes.

On Saturday morning, 100-plus volunteers from Chapin Baptist Church were in the Goody’s parking lot to greet 110 children and their parents. The families were served breakfast, sponsored by Waffle House, and given a voucher for $100 to spend for clothes and shoes in Goody’s department store.

After selections were made, children enjoyed games and were given a goody bag with school supplies while the parents went through the checkout.

Sonja Hollis of Chapin Baptist coordinates the event.

“We are thrilled to serve our community. It’s so exciting to share God’s love in a tangible way,” she said.
