Not too early

The Baptist Courier

I am in ill health and homebound. When I was told that Christmas decorations were currently (8-14-07) being placed on shelves of a local store, I decided that it was not too early to write this letter. It is time Christians stood up and spoke out to put Christ back in Christmas. I have the following suggestions:

– Buy only religious Christmas cards or write a Christmas-related Bible verse on a non-religious card.

– Solicit merchants to say “Merry Christmas first and then “Happy Holidays” on their advertisements (paper, TV, web).

– Ask radio stations to play Christmas carols; ask TV stations to carry Christmas programs and music.

– Ask merchants to play Christmas carol background music in their stores.

– Ask merchants to place nativity scenes in their window or front grounds.

– Arrange for your church to have a live nativity scene.

– Arrange for your church choirs (adult and children) to sing carols or present a cantata in the mall.

– Smile and greet everyone with “Merry Christmas!”
